FAQ
1. What is pZn?
PZn is the molar concentration of free zinc. Like pH, pZn units are negative log10 [Zn].
2. What is a "zinc buffer ?"
Like a pH buffer, a "zinc buffer," or "pZn buffer" is a mix of reagents that will "clamp" the pZn (free zinc concentration) at a target value.
3. Why use a pZn buffer?
For the same reason you need a pH buffer, you need a pZn buffer. Simply adding zinc salt (or chelator) produces completely uncontrolled and unknowable changes in your media.
4. What range is available?
PZn from 5 to 12 by ½ log units are stock. Others available by special order.
5. What are the limits of the buffers?
We make each solution, complete with all salts. Zinc-buffered Ringers, or ACSF, or synthetic serum, or Growth Medium must all be used just as made by us. You can special order, but you cannot substantially change the medium without potentially changing pZn.
6. What if I cannot afford to buy buffers?
Recipes and calculators exist. You can buy a pZn meter from NeuroBioTex, Inc. to test your recipes.
7. Why am I getting by without buffers?
G. Measurement of pZn is a new requirement from editors and reviewers
